Cary’s Koopa Kid Day Care

iggyBig news, folks! I own my very own day care center now. I’m taking care of eight kids! But they’re all from the same family! Their dad is a real tyrant, though, but he said that if I watched his children, he’d help me kidnap Princess Zelda. See, Link would always suspect Ganon, but never me! Muwa ha ha haaa! OK, so this is just a silly way to introduce my favorite part of New Super Mario Bros. Wii: the return of the Koopa Kids! And this whole blog is dedicated to them. It’s a little silly, but a little silliness is OK every once in a while!

Blog Jr.

wonderpetsOK everyone, it’s time to get out your safety scissors and juice boxes (mmmm…Ecto Cooler…), because in this blog, we’re all going to become little kids again for a short while. Recently I reviewed several Nick Jr. games, and it got me to thinking about other good educational games and TV shows I’ve enjoyed. So I thought I’d talk about them on this blog.

Game Review: The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road (DS)

OZ_BOXWhile The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was originally a book written by Frank L. Baum more than 100 years ago, this year marks the 70th anniversary of the more popular Wizard of Oz movie. And now you can explore the mystical Land of Oz with Dorothy, Toto, the Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion, and Tin Man on the DS. And here’s the big surprise, Beyond the Yellow Brick Road plays like a well made RPG, similar to Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy!

Cary’s Anime Blog

dragonballLast weekend, me, little brother Jeff and a good friend went to go see the Dragonball Evolution live action movie based on the Dragon Ball cartoon. Mainly because we wanted to see how terrible it really was (don’t worry, we went to the early bird showing so we only had to pay five bucks for tickets). The movie was hilariously awful, meaning it was so bad it was funny. But more on that later. Anyway, after that movie I decided that I would write a blog about my favorite Japanese anime cartoons. So here they are!

Idol Thoughts – Top 13: Michael Jackson Week

I happened upon a few popular polls regarding American Idol contestants over the last few days that had me predicting something for tonight. When asked who was there favorite, it wasn’t any of the anointed ones – not Danny or Adam or Lil; it wasn’t the obvious judge -picks of Jasmine or Megan. It was Anoop … the one they grudgingly let on to the Wild Card round add-ons, and have been obviously annoyed with since day one. So it was obvious they would be overly harsh with him. Another poll talked about ‘most over-rated’ and guess who won THAT title? Jasmine – one of the judges pet projects. So it was clear that they would be very careful about what they said to her so she would sail through. That doesn’t sound fair? Well, it is a fact of life made more obvious than ever this year because this … is American Idol Season 8!

Who Watches Saturday Morning Watchmen?

watchmenThis has been around a while but I just caught the parody of both 80’s Saturday Morning TV shows (a lost tradition) and the Watchmen (note Rosrchach playing with doggies). Really funny stuff.

Idol Thoughts – Wild Card Night!

My judge-manipulation-meter is totally pegged and my cynicism is so great it feels like it is leaking out of my ears. That is because we are at the point in the show where the judges and producers, having failed through manipulation of songs and arrangement and coaching and order and commentary to place all of their personal pet-choices … now get to trot them out once more mixed in with some second-chance cannon fodder before picking who they wanted anyway. That is because this … is American Idol!

Idol Thoughts: Top 36 Part 3

All I could think after last week was … is this actually going to happen; are we going to really watch this show this week after the last two weeks went from terrible to brutal? Well, since I’m writing this I guess you have your answer! Tuesday night we were back to our usual time slot, but the rest of the show – from limited time in the ‘red room’ to highlighting family members in the audience – remained pretty much the same. Once again, the odds were stacked against each contestant as the majority were performing for the final time on the Idol stage. And once again what the judges said seemed more in sync with some pre-scribed notes than what was actually happening on stage, but that isn’t surprising, because this … is American Idol!

Idol Thoughts: Top 36 Part 2

Another week, another three hours resulting in three more finalists making it to the top 12. Things were done a bit differently this time – performance night was moved to Wednesday due to the Presidential address, which puts off my schedule as well! Also, the overall format changed to include less interaction with the families of the singers – rather than sitting in the ‘red room’ (red because of the Coca Cola stuff plastered everywhere), they sat in the audience and glared at Simon whenever he said anything bad about their son or daughter or wife or friend. Which was often. Because this … is American Idol!
