Bee Movie Review

Disney Family put up my Bee Movie review - I ended up liking it a bit more than my wife, not as much as my kids, and I’mbeemovie still kind of angry about that absurd ad campaign (thank goodness it’s over).  Here’s an excerpt. Click the link to read the whole thing at Disney Family!

Bee Movie Bias?

beemoviebox.jpgI love Jerry Seinfeld. In fact,  I’ve been re-watching Seinfeld in syndication lately and enjoying it all the more after watching “Curb Your Enthusiasm” over the past few years. It’s so easy to mentally replace George with Larry David. I understand that it’s a big deal that Jerry is back with this animated “Bee Movie,” and I love children’s animation, but the ad blitz has me wanting to jam my fingers in my ears and scream “Serenity Now!” Is this unprecedented advertising overkill of what looks like - judging from previews - a pretty mediocre retread of “Antz” going to make it impossible for me to review the game without bias?

GamerDad on ABC WISN News 12 at 6pm Tonight!

newws12.jpgI got an email today asking where in Wisconsin I lived and whether or not I cared to comment further on Manhunt 2’s release, video game violence, and related issues.  I quickly called back and told them I was about 15 minutes away. One hour later a van pulled up and I was interviewed for tonight’s broadcast.  Don’t worry, I’ll be sure to post the video or link to the site, once it’s in place.

This isn’t the first time we’ve had this opportunity. We’ve been on the local news in San Francisco, Seattle, and Philadelphia. But this marks the first time my home town has acknowledged my existence and that’s somehow more gratifying. more…

We Can Be Heroes - Hospital Tales Pt. 1

hiro1.jpgAs most of you know, I had a recent - long - stay at the hospital.  Which is like being at the most expensive terrible Motel in the world. A place where the drug dealers are, for the most part nice, but they come in during the dark of night and leave the light one after forcing you to sample their wares. I mean, why would you need to sleep?  I spent a lot of time with my trusty DS during my two-week ordeal but even more important was when I suggested to my wife that we acquaint ourselves with that TV show everyone was talking about last year. The one with the superheroes. more…

How about Mr. Bean’s Holiday, Nancy Drew, or the Bratz Movie?  Well, GamerDad caught them all in his freelance gig working for Disney’s FamilyFun.com - the website to the million subscriber magazine you’ve probably paged through at your pediatrician’s office - click here for the complete list and  lets use this space to talk about the best family Summer films.

Not Too Kool for (High) School (Musical)

High School Musical 2I like the whole High School Musical franchise. There - I said it.

I liked High School Musical in spite of my general disdain for pop culture and particularly pop music and despite the fact that it meets my expectations of a plot-lite and predictable romp full of cliches and cardboard scenarios that you knew would all work out just like last week’s crime drama. more…

PAX mini-update #1 - Local News Mishap

PAX is off to a brilliant start - mainly because Wesley Crusher (Wil Wheaton) gave a fantastic keynote about how social gaming is, gaming with his kids (he was clearly an Expos fan in the early 80’s), and being proud to be a “gamer.” Great stuff I plan to build on in both my Sunday seminars. But I come not to praise Wheaton, but to bury a Seattle local news station.
