FYI
Hey all! Just popping in to promise that I am planning on posting about LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean (Henry and I are on the third movie/episode already and the game is really fantastic), Portal 2 (love it love it love it) and most importantly the incredible LA Noire. That one needs writing because it’s very mature, in the true sense of the term. I’m mainly here to say: “Yes, the GamerDad.com email isn’t working.” and “No, this isn’t because I lost the domain or am abandoning the site” and “don’t worry, it happened because I’m forgetful and finding it hard to go back 8 years and remember just who I bought the domain from, the passwords, etc., It’ll happen, until then please use “TheGamerDad @ gmail.com” no spaces. As far as my general lack of attention to this site? Well that’s a combination of new health issues (yay!) and my focusing on parenting, landscaping, and trying to get my book done finally. That’s about it. Until later, check LA Noire on Youtube and ask yourself if bloody and totally naked crime victims (as well as every other descriptor) is okay for your kids (hey, crime is crime and the game doesn’t pull a single punch), get LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean, and by all means get Portal 2 for yourself. Happy GamerDadding.
Cary’s Gaming Update 5/23
Well since it’s been so long since I posted anything here, I thought I’d write a blog just to let you all know I’m still alive and fill you in on what I’ve been up to lately. I haven’t written a game review in a while. It’s just such a SLOW time right now as far as game releases go. I think it’s just because E3 is right around the corner, so game companies aren’t going to announce anything or release anything new for a while.
Game Review: Marvel Pinball Fantastic Four (360, PS3)
A new Marvel table has popped up on Pinball FX 2. The Fantastic Four board will be available this week on Xbox LIVE, and a little later on for PS3 Zen Pinball on PSN (360 version reviewed here). Join your four favorite heroes, The Thing, The Human Torch, Invisible Woman, and that stretchy guy (sorry, can’t remember his name) as they battle Dr. Doom and even Galactus on the pinball field (hey the only reason why I know these names is from playing Marvel vs. Capcom 3).
Game Review: DodoGo! Robo (DSiWare)
In DodoGo! Robo, a new downloadable game for DSiWare, it’s your job to safely guide some robot dodo eggs to a finish line in each level. These eggs will continue hopping and rolling and will only turn around when they hit a wall, so it’s a bit like Lemmings, really. Using the DS stylus, you’ll draw planks, springs, and other tools to keep your eggs safe.
Video Game Breakfast Cereals
The other day I played a trick on my mom. I nearly convinced her that they had just made a Portal breakfast cereal, due to the popularity of Portal 2. I said the cereal had blue rings and orange rings just like the portals in the game, and the box had the two co-op robots holding the bowl and spoon! But it got me to thinking about video game based breakfast cereals I remember as a kid, so I thought that in this blog, I’d go over the ones I can recall. So get out your bowl, spoon, and milk, and let’s begin!
Game Review: Moon Diver (360, PS3)
Hey old school gamers! You like Strider? You know, the futuristic ninja dude with the slashy sword who can climb up walls and ceilings? Well, Moon Diver, a new downloadable game on 360 and PS3 (360 version reviewed here), is the best definition of ‘spiritual successor’ out there! Heck, it was even developed by the guy who originally created Strider! Moon Diver is a 2-D action game for up to four players. So yeah, co-op “Strider 3.” Very cool!
Game Review:Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury (360)
Game Review: Dino Strike (Wii)
Perhaps the easiest arcade genre to translate to the Wii home console is the point and shoot type hunting game. Dino Strike, by Zoo Publishing, is one that mixes hunting with that perennial favorite, dinosaurs. Dino Strike is a simple hunting game on rails, where the players shoot nearly everything on screen while the game controls the screen movement. While its story mode is somewhat short, it makes a pretty good game for the younger gaming set. It isn’t perfect, but would make a good budget title selection for younger gamers who would enjoy the mix of simple gameplay and dinosaur theme.

Game Review: Portal 2 (PS3, Xbox360, PC, Mac)
When it was released as a small bonus section to The Orange Box collection of Half-Life 2 and Team Fortress 2, Portal received such critical acclaim that many gamers bought the release primarily to give this new game a try. Based around the use of a portal gun that can generate two linked openings in any wall, allowing free passage between them, Portal remains one of the most unique games of the past decade, in a genre that can best be described as puzzle-first-person-shooter. Portal received such high praise that it spawned numerous discussions of the debate of quality over quantity among video games. Some worried that the stand-alone sequel, Portal 2 – which recently released, would not stand up to comparison to the dark humor-laden, but short original. However, the new Portal 2 does not disappoint. Containing much more content than the original, at least as mind-stumping puzzles, and perhaps even more humorous material, Portal 2 is a recommended purchase for nearly any video gamer.
